Coordinates in space and time - visual art and cultural exchange 2008 - 2012

The Coordinates in space and time - visual art and cultural exchange 2008 - 2012 report charts the internationalisation of culture and art, and the various opportunities that this brings with it, which have been a topic of intense cultural-political scrutiny in various countries in recent years.

In March 2007, Finland's Working Group for the Development of Cultural Exports (Ministries of Education, Trade and Industry, Foreign Affairs, and Finance, Finnish Tourist Board, FINPRO and TEKES) published its development programme: Do Finnish Cultural Exports Have Staying Power? YES! for 2007-2011. The working group asked information centres for various art disciplines to draw up export strategies for their own sectors.

To provide a basis for the art-sector programme FRAME Finnish Fund for Art Exchange commissioned researcher Marko Karo to produce a report identifying the challenges and problems facing culture exports from the viewpoint of the various bodies and individuals working in the visual arts. The report addresses questions such as: How should the internationalisation of art be promoted, and why? What kinds of support mechanisms are needed as a basis for a pluralistic Finnish visual art, and for promoting international participation?
