Finnish visual artist Katja Tukiainen is the first artist invited to exhibit in a series of exhibitions the FRAME office in Helsinki on February 1st 2011. The exhibitions at the Cable Factory offer visiting curators, artists and passers-by the opportunity to see works by Finnish artists, with a new artist on display every six weeks.
The first exhibition brings eight sweet paintings by Katja Tukiainen to FRAME, including the familiar flirtatious and provocative girls Kukka and Vanessa together with a luscious portrait of Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks.
- My works create debate about topics with ambiguous answers. Assange is a fascinating character, nearly a myth. In the portrait Julian Assange Sucker he is set up in the middle ground between a character of admiration and a lollipop waiting to be swallowed – is he a contemporary Robin Hood or a narcissist?, asks artist Katja Tukiainen.
Tukiainen’s installation Paradis g (Gräfenberg Spot) is currently part of the exhibition “Mazzano! – 20 Years of Time for Art” at the Amos Anderson Art Museum. In 2011 her work will be on display in a solo exhibition at Galleri Thomassen in Gothenburg at the Škuc Gallery in Ljubljana together with Riiko Sakkinen.
You are warmly welcome to visit the exhibition!
