Venetsian Biennaalissa uusi Pohjoismainen Yhteistyökokeilu
Venetsian biennaalin Pohjoismaisessa paviljongissa siirrytään vuodesta 2011 lähtien kuusivuotiseen kokeiluun: Suomi, Ruotsi ja Norja järjestävät paviljongissa vuorollaan oman näyttelynsä. Ruotsi on näyttelynjärjestäjänä vuonna 2011, Suomi 2013 ja Norja 2015. Kulloinkin ne kaksi maata, jotka eivät ole esillä Pohjoismaisessa paviljongissa, järjestävät omat näyttelynsä muualla Venetsiassa. Yhteispohjoismaisista näyttelyistä on vuodesta 2000 vastannut Pohjoismainen toimikunta, johon on kuulunut Suomesta Näyttelyvaihtokeskus Frame, Ruotsista Moderna Museet ja Norjasta Office for Contemporary Art Norway.
Nyt käynnistyvän kiertojärjestelmän tavoitteena on saada pohjoismaiselle taiteelle enemmän näkyvyyttä ja taiteen uusille muodoille perinteisiä ryhmänäyttelyitä parempia esittelymahdollisuuksia. Mallin toimivuus arvioidaan kuuden vuoden kokeilujakson lopussa.
Mallia esitti ensimmäisen kerran isännyysvuorossa ollut Moderna Museet vuonna 2004. Tuolloin kuitenkin päädyttiin vielä yhteisjärjestelyihin. Vuonna 2007 Suomen isännöimä Pohjoismaisen paviljongin näyttely ulottui Alvar Aallon suunnittelemaan Aalto Paviljonkiin, joka oli tuolloin saatu takaisin Suomen käyttöön 45 vuoden jälkeen: René Blockin kokoamassa kuuden taiteilijan näyttelyssä Welfare – Farewell Maaria Wirkkalan tilateos Vietato Lo Sbarco Aalto Paviljongissa toimi ’satelliittina’ laajemmalle pohjoismaiselle näyttelylle.
Viime vuonna yhteispohjoismainen näyttely laajeni neljän maan yhteishankkeeksi Pohjoismaiseen paviljonkiin ja Tanskan paviljonkiin, joihin norjalais-tanskalainen taiteilijapari Michael Elmgren ja Ingar Dragset kokosivat kahden imaginäärisen taidekeräilijän kodit rinnastavan Keräilijät -näyttelyn. Suomesta oli kutsuttu mukaan Laura Horelli ja Jani Leinonen. Samalla Suomella oli Aalto Paviljongissa virallisesti oma paviljonkinsa ensimmäistä kertaa sitten vuoden 1962, jolloin Suomi oli siirtynyt kuvataidebiennaaleissa Pohjoismaisen paviljongin yhteyteen. Näyttelynä oli Framen ja Nykytaiteen museo Kiasman järjestämä Jussi Kiven Palo- ja pelastusmuseo.
Giardinin puiston paraatipaikalle alun perin vuonna 1956 tilapäiseksi suunnitellun pienen Aalto Paviljongin merkitys korostuu nyt entisestään. Se tarjoaa esittäytymismahdollisuuden biennaalin pääalueella niinäkin vuosina, joina suomalaisia taiteilijoita ei ole esillä Pohjoismaisessa paviljongissa. Kun Suomi taas vastaa Pohjoismaisesta paviljongista, molempien paviljonkien näyttelyt voivat yhdessä tarjota tilat laajemmille, kaksiosaisille näyttelyille.

Finnish art galleries and designers made a joint appereance at the ArtParis + Guests 2010 Art Fair. In addition to art galleries, the fair also included platforms of six geographical and cultural regions. The theme of the Finnish exhibiton was "Stressed Beauty", which addressed the changing concepts of beauty through the works of 18 contmeporary artists and 11 designers. The curator of the Finnish exhibition was Leevi Haapala from the Museum of Contemproary Art Kiasma. The design objects were selected by industrial designer Antti Siltavuori and the exhibition design was by interior architect Ben af Schultén.
The Finnish Platform presented eight art galleries:

Adel Abidin will present his second exhibition in New York City, at Location One in Soho during 21 May – 31 July 2010. The exhibition title, "I’m Sorry" refers to the Iraqi-born artist’s experiences when traveling in the U.S. Featured at the exhibition are the artist’s video installations and short films, which question prejudices and stereotypes in a subtle and ironic manner. Location One is an independent, non-profit cultural organization based in the Soho district of New York. The exhibition has been supported by FRAME: The Finnish Fund for Art Exchange, The Asian Cultural Council and The New York State Council on the Arts.

Arctic hysteria resonates in the work of 17 Finnish artists or groups, and features sculptures, videos, paintings, photographs, installations, audio works and a documentary film. Arctic Hysteria is curated by Alanna Heiss (P.S.1 MoMA, New York) and Marketta Seppälä (FRAME – Finnish Fund for Art Exchange).
The artists are Bo Haglund, Veli Granö, Reijo Kela, Erkki Kurenniemi, Petri Sirviö/The Screaming Men, Mika Ronkainen, Tea Mäkipää, Pink Twins, Mika Taanila, Markus Copper, Ilkka Halso, Pekka Jylhä, Anni Rapinoja, Stiina Saaristo, Jari Silomäki, Sami Sänpäkkilä, Tellervo Kalleinen & Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen, and Salla Tykkä.
The exhibition was previously on view in the P.S.1 MoMA Contemporary Art Center in New York, at Ludwig Museum in Budapest and at Helsinki Kunsthalle.
The exhibition is produced in cooperation with the Artists' Association of Finland and FRAME. |

Jussi Kivi has won this year's Ars Fennica Prize. The winner of the Ars Fennica 2009 was chosen by Vicente Todolí, Director of the Tate Modern.
Kivi's solo show will be on view from 27 March to 23 May 2010 in the Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art in Vaasa.
Other contestants for the prize were Matti Kalkamo (b. 1968), Mika Karhu (b. 1969), Jyrki Riekki (b. 1976) and Petri Yrjölä (b. 1972). Ars Fennica 2009 exhibition will be on view in the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma until 10th of January 2010.

Leppälä will receive a 20,000 euro stipend awarded by the City of Tampere and supported by Nokia plc, as well as the opportunity to arrange a private exhibition at the Tampere Art Museum.

At the 3rd Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art Tommi Gronlund and Petteri Nisunen present their new project ‘Revolution Per Minute' elaborated especially for the space of one of the former shop floors of the factory Red October. In this installation, the artists work with the synthesis of the structure, geometrical forms and history of the chosen space that is used as an art venue for the first time and still preserves the spirit of the Soviet factory.
