What kinds of projects are eligible for grants and which costs are covered?

FRAME Finnish Fund for Art Exchange funding can be applied for to cover the costs of the following projects:

a) An event, which is held abroad and participated in by one or more Finnish artists. This event can be an exhibition or participation in an international group exhibition, biennial, or similar event such as a festival, an art fair, a seminar or a workshop.

b) Production of printed matter in a foreign language. Funds can be applied for when it can be considered for the given publication to promote the exhibition of a Finnish artist's work abroad.

Restrictions:
• The realization of the project should always require other sources of funding, for only in exceptional circumstances can the awarded grant be used to cover project's all costs.
• Funds can not be applied for projects that have already started or finished

Who can apply?

Any legally competent adult or organization can apply for financial support to show Finnish contemporary visual art abroad

1. Private individuals, such as:
- Visual artists living permanently in Finland or Finnish visual artists working abroad
- Finnish and foreign curators and producers

2. Workgroups (visual artists, curators, producers)
- When applying, a workgroup must fill in the power of attorney form, so that the person acting on behalf of the workgroup is authorized to act as the contact person, to sign the grant agreement, and to collect the grant. The power of attorney can be printed out from FRAME's web page. It must be signed by all workgroup members and sent to FRAME by post.
- It should however be remembered that all workgroup members are responsible for the appropriate use of the FRAME Finnish Fund for Art Exchange grant.

3. Finnish or foreign organization

When to apply?

Project grant applications are reviewed 3 times a year. The application dead-lines are 1 April, 15 August or 1 December. Applicants will be notified of the decisions by post within 4 weeks of the end of the application period.

Appendices in support of the application can be sent within 5 working days of the final submission date.

Should the application arrive later than on the final submission date FRAME can only guarantee that it will be processed in the next application period.
You can also apply for funding for projects that begin before the yearly three deadline dates (1.4./15.8./1.12.). The application is always to be submitted before the project begins.

Filling in and reviewing the application

The grant application is filled in either in English or Finnish. The application must be clear. It should give those deciding on the funding a good, multi-faceted impression of the project for which funding is requested; of its scope, significance, implementation and cost, including the overall funding of the project. It is recommended that applicants enclose with the application any other material that might be useful to and support it, and which might illustrate it.

The most important thing is the artistic significance of the project; the works, performances and so on that are to be shown, plus the organization arranging them is required to be of sufficiently high artistic standard and professional skill/ professionalism. Printed-matter applications are considered to have the advantage of being linked with a forthcoming foreign exhibition or to be of general importance in promoting the artist's international exhibition activities.

Grant decisions

Decisions of the application received in time will be sent within 4 weeks of the end of the application period. Decisions will be sent to the applicants by post. A copy of the signed grant agreement should be returned to FRAME for the payment of the grant.
